A Note from the Architects - Richard Caldwell - Tim Posey
Thank you for your interest in the Angelique Village townhouses. We are grateful for the privilege of designing a project that includes so many of the principles that personally motivate us. We would like to share these principles and our overall concept with you.
Our architectural upbringing took place within the rich heritage of traditional New Orleans and Louisiana architecture. Japanese architecture was also a formative influence and we bring the grace, elegant scale and proportion, and attention to detail of both these traditions to our design projects.
In our combined 67 years of architectural and construction management experience, we have also learned to appreciate local architectural styles. In this project, we have chosen to preserve the existing 1905 Victorian mansion because of its wonderful character and historical importance in the architectural and cultural fabric of Brevard.
We
are creating continuity within the site by incorporating architectural
elements of the mansion into the design of the new townhouses. We are also
integrating elements of Craftsman and mountain vernacular styles into the
design, harmonizing the project with Brevard’s architectural history and mountain environment.
Angelique
Village is designed so that residents and visitors experience beauty, well-being,
and balance in an environment that supports health and longevity.
We are members of the Western North Carolina Green Building Council and our townhouses will have the WNCGBC’s designation of “Healthy Built Homes,” assuring homeowners healthy air and water quality. The “Healthy Built Homes” designation addresses protecting the health of our planet, as well, and it is our intention and personal commitment that our design and construction practices demonstrate how to care for the earth and conserve resources. At a practical level, this translates into reduced utility and maintenance costs.
This
experience of beauty, balance, and well-being is engendered on a subtler
level by incorporating principles of sacred geometry, Feng Shui, and Biogeometry™ into
site design and the interiors and exteriors of buildings.
Sacred
geometry refers to the proportions found in nature and in all living things,
called the “golden mean” by the Greeks and used in their art and
temple architecture. We have used these same “golden proportions” to
create spaces that will be seen – and felt – as beautiful, serene,
harmonious, and magical.
Biogeometry™, developed by Dr. Ibrahim Karim [www.biogeometry.com], with whom we have studied, focuses on creating balancing energy that has a centering effect on all aspects of the human system, while transmuting undesirable electro-magnetic fields and earth grid energies. We have used special moldings, colors, recurring patterns, repeated shapes, and other dynamic features to create spaces that support balance, harmony, and health.
In the design of Angelique Village, we have also expressed our commitment to New Urbanism and traditional neighborhood design, with emphasis on mixed use, walkability, and a sense of community. Angelique’s mixed use zoning allows the mansion to be used as a residence or as offices, spa, bed-and-breakfast, or other low-impact uses compatible with the townhouses. The Village features a community garden and other spaces designed to foster community interaction and the site is an easy walk to most major services, restaurants, churches, the library, Brevard College, and the farmers’ market.
By blending all these qualities, we hope to make a special addition to the ambiance of the Brevard community, to provide an investment of incomparable value, and, especially, to create a living experience of the highest quality.
